# What is MITACS (a brief Intro)?

=> Mitacs is a Canadian non-profit organization that offers research and training programs for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows.

 

Purpose: Mitacs aims to foster research and innovation by connecting students and researchers with industry partners, helping them develop their skills, and facilitating collaboration between academia and industry.

Mitacs Globalink: Provides international research opportunities for undergraduate students.

Mitacs Accelerate: Connects graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with industry partners for research collaborations.

# Certain Must Check Eligibility Criterias:

 

1.  Your University must be in Collabration with MITACS as a part of the eligible universities.

    2.  Even if your university isn’t eligible, you can work out a bit via asking your Dean/Head positions at your university/college to get in membership with MITACS(We had to fight as well with the SICI/AIEEE to get our institute registered, it will be hard but is definitely worth it!)

 

    3. Although as per MITACS you must be in your pre-final year to apply for the internship. During my experience I saw students in their 2nd years apply to so don’t waste your chance(just mail the helpdesk of MITACS and ask if you can apply or not, infact just apply worst case scenario you might not get selected but that won’t affect your eligibility to apply the next year)

#Things you will need for the Application and How to prepare for it

1. Once you have checked the eligibility, it is time to start applying. You can choose upto 7 projects as you like and priortise the order.

   1. I generally choose the interest in project

   2. The Professor’s Lab (Must be an international lab for me)

   3. The Professor’s recent papers and citations

   4. Brand of the University( QS World Ranking )

 

​    2. You will have to prepare a research CV as well detailing your previous research experience and projects. (They mostly look for Institute Name and Brand; your CPI/CGPA; Research Papers; Previous Experience; LORs)

No one know the exact distribution of this as it varies from professor to professor. LOR = the recommendation letter you will need to submit for the programme (It show that you worked/studied a course under a professor and his experience with you is very valuable)

 

    3. Unlike other programmes, you don’t have a Statement of Purpose letter for this program. You have Questions where you have to mention about your Skills and Achievements. I’m attaching an example of how I somehow filled in my details

*TIP: Although your CV clears pretty much everything build that very carefully, if your previous projects/experience aligns with the project you are choosing it improves your chances.

 

#Timeline

 

It varies slightly every year ( Or my batch was just different{Covid-19})

But here are some good Quora answers (Am too lazy to type anymore… However there are two rounds for it so even if you don’t get anything in round 1, and it’s a frustrating process cause you fill the forms in around August and don’t get anything until Jan/Feb next year)
